Surprisingly delicious!
Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2012This is one of the most useful cookbooks I have ever had. Whether or not you are trying to use Dr. Hyman's method, these recipes are healthful, easy, and remarkably delicious. I have tried a majority of the recipes in the book and have come across very few that didn't work for me. The book has several easy and delightful vinaigrettes, making it easier for me to love salads. There are also wonderfully surprising ways with vegetables like Broccoli with Lemon and Kalamata Olives, which I did not expect to be good, but turned out to be magic. Also love the Black Bean Confetti Salad, and the Chicken Salad with Tarragon and Pears. The Brazil Nut Bars are great to have on hand for a snack, in order to avoid becoming too hungry and going for some junk food. I tried the method for several months, and it was good for me. But I kept on using the cookbook long after I was done using the method.

Best Cookbook ever!
Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2009I have never been moved to write a review of a cookbook until now. "The Ultrametabolism Cookbook" has been a huge help in my transferring over to cooking healthy,unprocessed meals. The book is extremely well written, from a well organized layout to logical, detailed directions in the recipes. The recipes I have tried so far have been delicious and not too complicated, AND the cookbook lays open without having to put a plate or coaster on the side. ( A pet peeve of mine when it comes to cookbooks!)I can't recommend this book enough. The only downside it that cooking the "ultramind way" does take a bit more thought and planning that the "stop by the grocery store on the way home" method. But if you are interested in creating healthy meals and are willing to plan a bit, this is a great book to start with.

Great Cookbook
Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2010This cookbook is great. I've only tried about 6 or 7 recipes so far, but they have been really good. It uses a lot of natural fresh herbs and it does have many recipes that require a grill but I've used a pan and things have come out just fine. I can't comment on the weight loss because I'm not using this book exclusively. Overall I think the recipes are delicious and I enjoy using fresh herbs and natural products.

A lifestyle change
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2009If you are looking for a diet book, this book isn't for you. If, however, you want to change the way you eat, feel better, and keep the weight off that you lose then buy this book.
The first section of the book explains why preservatives and artificial food additives are bad and why eating freshly made foods can increase the metabolism. The second section is divided into two phases of recipes; the first being a month-long detoxification phase to clear out preservatives and artificial substances out of the body, and the second phase is a more broad set of recipes that is less restrictive on what you can eat.
If you do plan to try this book, you need to be prepared to:
1) Be able to follow recipes and cook for yourself or have some one to do so for you. No fast food or frozen dinners.
2) Have time to cook. While some of the recipes are quick, others take quite a bit of time. I can make grilled chicken in about 15 minutes, but making soup can take nearly an hour. (I double or triple recipes and keep left-overs for time-consuming recipes.)
3) Buy kitchen utensils and appliances. The book lists useful ones. I haven't bought the full list, but the ones I have do really help make things easier.
Now you must be asking yourself, "If I get this book, will it really work?" In my case, I have been seriously overweight for most of my life. I have tried other diets, but none seemed to work. At my last weigh-in at my doctor's office before getting this book I was 344 lbs and wearing a size 50 jeans. After 5 months using these recipes I returned and weighed in at 279 lbs wearing a size 44 jeans (That is 65 lbs in 5 months).
Try it, stick with it, and it will work for you. The food tastes great due to the spices, so I never have a problem wanting something I shouldn't have. I really recommend this book to anyone who needs to take off the weight and keep it off naturally.
Edit:
I thought I should update this since it has been one year now since I bought this book. I am currently down to 234 pounds and a size 40 (meaning I have lost 110 pounds and 10 inches in the past year since I bought this book). Over the course of the year I have branched off from using the recipes alone, but I have always following the guidelines found in the first section. I still recommend this book and have done so for many of my friends and coworkers when they ask me what I did to lose weight.

Good company cookbook but not a good book for everyday meals
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2013This is a healthy food cookbook, but the food preparation is too time consuming for the average person. I have spent hours cooking these foods and I find it to be tedious and demanding. It might be a good cookbook for company, but it is not a good book for everyday meals.

Love this cookbook!
Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2014I have purchased 6 copies of this book over a few years because I keep giving my copy to my friends and then buying another copy for myself. I appreciate all the background information Dr. Hyman has researched and written however I primarily use this as a cookbook when I feel the need to get my eating habits "back on track"! My husband and I followed the program once for three weeks and we both lost weight (him 10 lbs and me 6 lbs) and kept it off for almost 6 months even though we returned to our more "gluttonous" eating habits. It's not easy for an Italian to give up bread and pasta!
Overall, it contains great recipes that help keep you on a healthy but fulfilling diet without making a dramatic lifestyle change. Highly recommend!!

Gourmet Quality!!!!

I have completed Dr. Hyman's six-week UltraMind program and wanted more recipes to choose from as I intend to continue this lifestyle. The recipes I've tried so far are to die for. My whole family is pleased, including my 2 very picky children. Not only are the recipes delicious, they are healthy! Yes, there is a lot of chopping and dicing but I don't mind because I know I'm eating healthy. I do have one bit of advice. Always use fresh herbs when the recipe calls for it. I can't believe the difference it makes in flavor. I feel sorry for the one-star reviewer. "Going bad" is what happens to fresh whole foods when they sit in your refrigerator unused. I'm sure she/he didn't give the recipes much attention. I on the other hand, can't recommend this cookbook enough.

This was a Gift
Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2012I have a cousin who has had a heart attack and since then has gained huge amounts of weight and seems to be struggling with it. Partly is his diet and partly is that they have him on so many medications for his heart and blood pressure that the poor guy's body doesn't know if it's coming or going. I am no doctor but reading the Ultraprevention book I found a lot of similar scenarios with my own health and many other people close to me. I got him the book and this is the follow up. I've tried some of the recipes in this book and found them not only easy to make but yummy. I recommend this for anyone.

I haven't followed the extremes of this book, and have lost the same weight as this book has indicated a person would lose on their diet. I would probably lose more weight if I followed the diet in this book, but I haven't felt the need to yet.

I intend using this for weight loss as it has loads of great ideas to get started. Each recipe gives details of calories, carbs etc, etc to help work out what to eat.
