About Dr. Mark Hyman

Mark Hyman, MD, is the founder of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine. He’s also a medical news contributor on CBS, a co-founder and chief medical officer of Function Health, and one of TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people in health.

Dr. Hyman first introduced the principles of Brainshaping Academy more than 15 years ago, with his book The UltraMind Solution. In the time since, the science has continued to validate his approach. Is Brainshaping Academy a replacement for therapy and medication? 

Brainshaping Academy does not replace traditional mental health treatment. It’s better to think of it as complementary. 

It may help some people reduce or even eliminate their reliance. But you should not make any changes to your treatment plan without talking to your physician. 

Does Brainshaping Academy focus on nutrition?

Nutrition is the backbone of the program, and for good reason: Food is the most powerful medicine on the planet. It provides information that tells every cell in your body how to behave.

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when you hear 12 weeks, but the course has been designed to take just one to two hours a week, total.

This is the fast-track option for those who want to put Brainshaping principles into action right away.

With this path, you’ll do the Brainshaping Course and Brainshaping Plan at the same time.

The course will serve as your reference and support system while you start making immediate changes to your diet and lifestyle. 

What does the Brainshaping Course look like?

The course is organized into six modules, and you can expect to complete each one in one to two hours.

These modules give you the background you need for the Brainshaping Academy Plan, which is a structured six-week nutrition and lifestyle phase where you put your lessons into action.

Can Brainshaping Academy help you with weight loss? 

Yes. While the lessons focus on your mind, the "side effects" may include weight loss.

With Brainshaping Academy, you’ll learn why processed foods are damaging to your brain and exactly how to move away from them. And this could have a big impact on your body weight.

In a study published in Cell Metabolism, researchers divided subjects into two groups. One was given an unlimited supply of processed foods, while the other was given an unlimited supply of real, whole foods. 

There was no measuring portions or counting calories. Both groups were allowed to eat as much as they wanted. And yet, the whole-food group still consumed 508 fewer calories a day. 

They ate fewer calories simply by switching from processed to unprocessed foods. And as a result, they lost weight. 

Even though the study only ran for two weeks, the group eating processed foods gained nearly a pound, while the group eating whole foods lost nearly a pound.
